Jazzzdog Promotions’ mascot Brak has literally been scratching his head thinking of new ways to get ‘face time’ in the media. Unfortunately, every time he comes up with something he is trumped immediately by a drunken, nearly naked Lady Gaga flipping people off at ball parks or fallen stars saying they’ve been kidnapped (by the guy they’ve been out partying with all night). Outside of alien abduction, which is so Roswell, or getting ghostly visitations from Elvis, he’s stumped. Brak is considering a new pr firm.

Here is the music from Camp Jazzzdog....

Brad Mehldau “Highway Rider” (Nonesuch) was at number 3 at JazzWeek and number 9 at CMJ! Brad’s cd was just picked as one of the NPR top five jazz cds of 2010 so far. Here are the hot cuts for the week: “Into the City”, “Capriccio”, “Highway Rider”, “Sky Turning Grey” and “Always Returning”.

Trombone Shorty “Backatown” (Verve Forecast) was at number 7 at CMJ and number 9 at JazzzWeek this week. We hope you caught Troy on Letterman recently! The songs you are grooving to most are: “On Your Way Down”, “Hurricane Season”, “Backatown”, “In the 6th” and “Neph”.

Nnenna Freelon “Homefree” (Concord Records) was at number 12 at JazzWeek this week! Her gigs at Ronnie Scott’s were huge successes. She got standing ovations from sold out crowds. Here are the hot tracks of the week: “I Feel Pretty”, “The Lamp is Low”, “The Very Thought of You”, “Cell Phone Blues” and “Get Out of Town”.

Jacky Terrasson “Push” (Concord Records) was at number 13 at CMJ and number 18 at JazzWeek! It is hard to miss the press onslaught about the anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death. Jacky recorded his version of “Beat It/Body and Soul” right after he heard the news of Jackson’s passing. It was born of playing the song at Iridium a year ago Friday. Here’s what y’all are playing the most this week: “Ruby My Dear”, “Gaux Girl”, “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To”, “Say Yeah” and “Beat Bop”.

Arturo Sandoval “A Time for Love”
(Concord) was at number 23 at CMJ and number 30 at JazzWeek this week. Here’s one for your next rainy day: go to Netflix and see if you can find the film “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia as Arturo! Here’s what people played the most: “Speak Low”, “I Loves You Porgy”, “Emily”, “Estate” and “All the Way”.
